Digital-First Faith Formation for eFormation (2017)

Much of the time when we think about using digital technology in faith formation, we view it as an add-on, a complement, or a supplement to pre-existing face-to-face formation experiences. But what if we changed our starting point, creating digital-first and perhaps digital-only formation experiences and letting the face-to-face emerge organically from there? In this workshop I share experiences and case studies on digital-first formation, including my recent projects, “The OA for Lent” and “Faith at Home.”

The Digital Cathedral Book Launch (2015)

Upper Dublin Lutheran Church hosted a book launch event to celebrate the publication of my book, The Digital Cathedral:Networked Mininistry in a Wireless World on June 18, 2015. During the presentation, I explained why I wrote the book and read a few selections from the text—my visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral, the ministry of Bishop Jim Hazelwood, and about Cathedral in the Night in Northampton, Massachusetts. We wrapped up a with Q&A. Callista Isabelle, Chaplain at Muhlenberg College, who is featured in Chapter Nine of The Digital Cathedral, was our special guest and spoke about how she makes her campus and social media her cathedral. 

Ministry Leadership in the Digital Age

I recently gave a presentation at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia on Ministry Leadership in a Digital Age based on my new book, The Digital Cathedral: Networked Ministry in a Wireless World (now available for pre-order on Amazon). The seminary was good enough to post a video of the entire presentation. My thanks to the seminary for this opportunity to share my work and explore the theological underpinnings of the book. Make Your Neighborhood Your Cathedral

This fall I was invited to speak as part of a series called "Conversations that Matter" for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the ELCA. I gave the talk live at the first conversation in Nazareth, PA and then we recorded it for subsequent gatherings. The invitation was to speak about the future direction of the church in a way that provoked conversation and reflection.

This 22-minute video called "Make Your Neighborhood Your Cathedral" explores something I am deeply passionate about and I think is vital to the future of the Church—getting outside our church buildings and being present in public local and digital gathering spaces, whether it is the local cafe or pub, Facebook or Twitter.
